Why Stability Testing is Essential!

Cosmetic products are exposed to different temperatures, humidity levels, and handling conditions from manufacturing to end use. Without proper stability testing, products can separate, lose viscosity, change colour, or even become unsafe for use. Conducting stability testing:

  • Predicts your product’s shelf life

  • Ensures consistency in texture, colour, scent, and performance

  • Helps maintain product safety and consumer trust

  • Supports compliance with regulatory guidelines

Stability Testing for Cosmetic Products

Ensure your cosmetic products remain safe, effective, and visually appealing throughout their entire shelf life. Stability testing is an essential step in cosmetic product development, helping you identify potential formulation issues, meet regulatory requirements, and guarantee that your customers receive a high-quality, stable product every time.

At Elvoria Cosmetics, we offer comprehensive stability testing services designed to evaluate your product’s performance under different conditions, including Preliminary Stability Testing, Accelerated Stability Testing, and Freeze/Thaw Testing. Together, these tests provide you with a complete understanding of how your formulation will behave over time and under various storage and shipping conditions.

Stability Testing Services and Price List

I offer three professional testing options that can be performed individually or as part of a full stability package.

Please note that the prices listed are per individual product. If you have multiple products requiring testing, please leave a message in the form below, and I’ll get back to you with a customised discounted quote.

Freeze/Thaw Stability Testing

Duration: 6 cycles (typically 6 weeks)
$600.00
Australian Dollars
For Freeze/Thaw Stability Testing, a total of 6 samples are required, each containing 30 g, 50 g, or 100 g of product. All samples must be provided in their intended retail packaging, as packaging interaction is a critical part of stability evaluation. The samples will be stored at the following conditions:
  • Freezing: -5°C to -10°C for 24 hours
  • Thawing: 25°C for 24 hours
  • Microbial testing (TPC + Yeast & Mould) at Day 0 and End of cycles
  • Freeze/Thaw Testing evaluates your product’s stability when exposed to extreme temperature fluctuations, such as during shipping or seasonal climate changes. It identifies risks of phase separation, emulsion breakdown, or texture changes caused by repeated freezing and thawing.

Preliminary Stability Testing (Mini-Screening)

Duration: 42-45 days
$800.00
Australian Dollars
For Preliminary Stability Testing, a total of 6 samples are required, each containing 30 g, 50 g, or 100 g of product. All samples must be provided in their intended retail packaging, as packaging interaction is a critical part of stability evaluation. The samples will be stored at the following conditions:
  • Room temperature: 20–25°C
  • Elevated temperature: 40°C
  • Preliminary Stability Testing provides an initial assessment of your formulation’s short-term stability. It is designed to detect early signs of separation, colour changes, pH shifts, or texture inconsistencies, making it ideal for identifying potential formulation issues before proceeding to longer-term stability studies.

Accelerated Stability Testing

Duration: 6 months (182 days)
$1,500
Australian Dollars
For Accelerated Stability Testing, a total of 10 samples are required, each containing 30 g, 50 g, or 100 g of product. All samples must be provided in their intended retail packaging, as packaging interaction is a critical part of stability evaluation. The samples will be stored at the following conditions: Temperature:
  • Room temperature: 20–25°C
  • Elevated temperature: 40°C ± 2°C
  • Accelerated Stability Testing simulates long-term storage conditions by exposing your product to elevated temperatures and humidity. This method predicts how your product will perform over 12–24 months under normal conditions. It assesses key parameters, including pH, viscosity, colour, and odour, ensuring your product maintains quality throughout its intended shelf life. Sample Size Chart:

Recommended Sample Quantity and Size for Freeze/thaw Stability

Sample Requirements (Per Product)

Freeze/Thaw Stability Testing Only

For a 6-cycle Freeze/Thaw Stability Test following IPCS best practice, we require 14 retail units per product to ensure two samples per timepoint and adequate backup units. All samples must be provided in final packaging of sale.

As a guide:

• 30 g/mL serum: 14 units ≈ 420g/mL total
• 50 g/mL toner or mask: 14 units ≈ 700g/mL total
• 100 g/mL cream or cleanser: 14 units ≈ 1,400g/mL (1.4 kg/L) total

Recommended Sample Quantity and Size for Preliminary Stability Testing (Mini-Screening)

Sample Requirements (Per Product)

Preliminary / Mini-Screening Stability Testing Only

For a 4–6 week Mini-Screening Stability Test, we require approximately 16 retail units per product, depending on the number of conditions selected. All samples must be provided in final packaging of sale.

As a guide:

• 30 g/mL serum: 16 units ≈ 480g/mL total
• 50 g/mLtoner or mask: 16 units ≈ 800g/mL total
• 100 g/mL cream or cleanser: 16 units ≈ 1,600g/mL (1.6 kg/L) total

Recommended Sample Quantity and Size for Accelerated Stability and Microbial Testing (6 Months)

Sample Requirements (Per Product):

For full Accelerated Stability at 25 °C and 40 °C, Freeze/Thaw, and Microbial Testing, we require approximately 20 retail units per product. All samples must be provided in final packaging of sale.

• 30 g/mL serum: 26 units ≈ 780 g/mL total
• 50 g/mL toner or mask: 26 units ≈ 1,300 g/mL(1.3 kg/L) total
• 100 g/mL cream or cleanser: 26 units ≈ 2,600 g/mL (2.6 kg/L) total

For stability testing, clients are required to supply their own product samples. If you would like my lab to formulate and prepare the samples on your behalf, an additional fee will apply.
